Just like the United States of America and Mexico, Turkey and Syria share a border, therefore the countries are used to be involved with each other. Syria has been in a civil war since the year of 2011. This internal conflict was brought on by an uprising against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who has been the president of Syria since 2000. This civil war got further complicated when ISIS declared its new state in different parts of Syria in 2014. The Islamic State of Iran and the Levant (or ISIS for short) is a militant organization that emerged as an offshoot of al Qeada. Most of the world sees ISIS as a terrorist organization. By declaring their own “state” in an already established country, ISIS caused a lot of conflict within the already torn apart country Syria.
The civil war conflicts were pushed even further when the United States President Donald Trump decided to order all of the United States troops to be removed from the Kurdish-controlled areas of northeastern Syria on October 6, 2019. Since the Turkish people and Turkish government view the Kurdistan Workers’ Party as a terrorist organization, they have banned the practice of such terrorize organizations and don’t tolerate any behavior associated with them. With no other foreign forces in with the Kurdish-controlled areas in Syria, this led the Turkish forces to invade these areas. On October 9, 2019, Turkey led the first invading attack on the Kurdish-controlled areas in Syria. Turkey’s main goal with their invasions is to create a buffer between the Turkey state and the Kurdish forces.
Turkish forces continued to attack the Syrian border for two whole weeks. President Donald Trump tried to institute a “ceasefire” so Turkey would stop. invading and attacking Syrian people. The ceasefire finally stuck, and the Turkish forces haven’t been attacking the Kurdish-controlled areas. President Trump released a statement on October 23, 2019 saying there is now a permanent ceasefire in Syria between both the Kurds and Turkey. He also says that while it will be tough in such a violent place, he does believe it will stay permanent.
